Grave Offerings
From the cemetery of the first settlers, the Clazomenians, come two sets of objects that are the remains of infants buried in jars.
These graves are the only ones in the cemetery containing a great variety of rich objects.
The aryballoi, a kind of aromatic oils container, stand out among them. These are vessels imported from Corinth and are among the most luxurious and expensive vessels discovered in the Clazomenian settlement. These children, therefore, belonged to the most financially prominent and possibly leading families of the small society of the early settlers.
