Section Private Life: “Domestic Activities” (Showcase 13)

Glass Alabastron
Alabastron made of blue opaque glass. It belongs to a rare group of glass alabastra with a flat bottom. Its decoration consists of superimposed white, yellow and light blue glass fibres. Height: 9,5 cm.
These vessels were very expensive and were used for aromatic oils.
It was found in the cemetery of tumuli in Abdera and, along with a gold-plated wreath, served as a grave offering for a child of about 10 years of age. The vessel had been broken into many small pieces that were welded together.
It dates to the end of the 4th century BC.
